Privacy Policy
For the iOS app “Nuzul: Scroll the Quran” and this website. Last updated: 28 October 2026. Deutsche Fassung
In short
Nuzul needs no account, shows no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. Your reading progress, settings and saved ayat stay on your iPhone. We only send anonymous usage statistics if you explicitly agree.
1. Controller
path digital PD GmbH & Co. KG
Lindenstraße 3D, 55595 Hargesheim, Germany
Managing director: Tarik Yayla
Email: support@getnuzul.com
2. Data on your device
Settings, daily goal, streak, saved and memorised surahs and your reading position are stored only on your iPhone (in a shared App Group container for the widgets). We do not receive this data. If you delete the app, it is gone.
3. Location for prayer times (optional)
Only if you choose a reminder after a prayer does the app ask once for your approximate location (“While Using the App”). The coordinates are rounded to about one kilometre and stored only on your device to calculate prayer times there. iOS uses Apple's geocoding service for the city name; Apple's privacy policy applies. Your location is never sent to us. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings.
4. Notifications
Reminders are local notifications scheduled by your iPhone itself. There are no push servers and we hold no push token.
5. Recitation audio
Text and translation are included in the app. Recitation is loaded from everyayah.com when you play it. For technical reasons this server receives your IP address and usual connection data. We do not pass on any other data. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the feature you requested). Without playback, no connection is made.
6. Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports (consent only)
During onboarding we ask whether you want to share anonymous usage data. Without your yes, nothing is sent. With your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG) the app sends the following to PostHog (PostHog Inc., servers in the EU/Frankfurt, via our address k.pathdigital.de):
- app version, iOS version, device model, language
- which features are used (for example a tab opened, recitation started, daily goal reached) and your onboarding answers (intention, daily goal, reminder time)
- rough progress levels (for example streak, share read in 10 % steps)
- crash reports (technical error messages)
- a random installation ID so we can count usage
Not sent: your name, your location, which ayat or surahs you read, advertising IDs. There are no person profiles, IP addresses are not stored and there is no tracking across other apps. PostHog processes the data as a processor under a contract according to Art. 28 GDPR. Data is deleted after 12 months at the latest. You can withdraw consent at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy; this also resets the installation ID.
7. Purchases
Optional purchases (Premium, support) run entirely through Apple's In-App Purchase. We do not receive payment data. Apple only shares anonymised sales figures with us. Apple's privacy policy applies. You manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings.
8. Sharing
When you share an ayah, the app creates the image on your device and hands it to the iOS share sheet. You decide where it goes; we receive nothing.
9. This website
When you visit this website, our hosting provider processes technically necessary server log data (IP address, time, page requested, browser) to deliver the site securely (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Fonts are served from our own server; there is no connection to Google Fonts. We use no cookies and no analytics tools on the website.
The hosting provider is Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. A data processing agreement according to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Vercel. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 45, 46 GDPR). More: Vercel's privacy policy.
10. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. Because we collect no data in the app that identifies you, we usually cannot link any data to you; you can still write to us at any time at support@getnuzul.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Rhineland-Palatinate.
If the English and German versions differ, the German version prevails.
